It's Thursday! Confessional time! Linking up with the lovely Jess (who revealed super exciting news this week -- yay!!!).

I confess...

I started to post this yesterday thinking it was full well already Thursday. WHAT? I can't keep my days straight. They all bleed into one another. How is it the last day of March??

Babies are all the rage right now. Everyone's expecting them, wanting them, birthing them, talking about them. National baby fever? Or am I just in a bubble of everyone in the height of reproductive age? Or am I just tuned into baby radar?

My own baby is going to be a TODDLER NEXT MONTH. WHAAAT?

I realized this morning I am pretty decent at conflict management when I am to blame, but not so much when others have wronged me. Need to work on that. Both are crucial!

It's not 10am yet and already I've had a day in which a bottle of wine would be really nice and fitting. Sparkling because it's morning, right? ;)

Drew and I are having conflicting thoughts about Lilly's cake. Only to be resolved tomorrow at the bakery, of course.

I can't juggle all of the plates at once. If my house is clean and I've cooked, you can bet I haven't answered a single email or touched my computer. And the baby is probably in pajamas. If I'm on top of work, hello dustbunnies and caesar salad for dinner. (And the baby is probably at my mom's. Haha.)

I adore the off-shoulder look right now but I have nothing in that style. I was really into it back in 2007ish too and then my upper body just kept getting cold. Too bad I didn't keep anything!

A lot of times I wake up thinking I have no idea how to dress myself as a young stylish mom. I pat myself on the back some, since I won "Best Dressed" at the wedding planners' group awards dinner in December (I'm obviously at least dressing myself okay for meetings and work functions!), but on a daily basis, it's a tossup. Maybe informal "mom uniforms" (like a Lilly Elsa top + brightly colored shorts + sandals every day) are the way to go. Master a formula, wear the crap out of it. Necklaces and pretty much all accessories are the killer for me. How do you wear them? Especially when the baby you're carrying wants to eat them all the time? Maybe I need to look into classic things more. Like silver cuffs. And replace my lost pearl earring.

So, I added two cloves of garlic to my avocado (#homemadeguac) the other day before Drew got home, and he literally could not stand the smell of me that entire evening. THAT strong! Yikes!!! Laying off the deliciousness that is garlic from now on... Travesty!

I think this is all I've got for today! Hope your Thursday goes swimmingly and mine takes a turn for the best immediately!

lilly's puppy party:: inspiration

Follow my blog with Bloglovin!

I got the idea for what to theme Lilly's first birthday party over the holidays. While I love mermaids and flamingos and narwhals (are you sensing a pattern?), Lilly's birthday has/had to mean something to her. And what does Lilly love? PUPPIES! We don't have a dog, but any time we're at either of her grandparents' houses or visiting my sister, Lilly goes nuts over the dogs. She loves being carried to follow them around (or chase them, when Grandmama Cass lets her around Buddy) and laughs hysterically when they jump up to catch treats. She'll babble and squeal at Zuzu and Pretty whenever she's hanging out at my parents' house and can be entertained for quite some time by setting up her carseat or high chair in front of the window at Drew's parents' place to spy on Buddy.

I've been pinning puppy party ideas for months now, and slowly started to accumulate things for the big day -- since it's happening NEXT MONTH! I found the cutest invitation suite on Etsy, which lends us a color palette overall of pink and aqua.

Certain things have been non-negotiable -- I had to have a cute invitation, balloons must be involved (I have wanted a balloon arch at a party FOREVERRRR! I had no energy to construct the arch of my dreams at my shower last spring, so this is my golden opportunity!), and the cake is top priority. Food? Not so much.

Here's what I'm thinking I want to incorporate:

  • Puppy-themed food. Nothing crazy, but some hot dogs, some punny sides, and kid- and diabetic-friendly fare. I got some low-calorie pink and regular lemonade at Trader Joe's yesterday that will be perfect!
  • A super legit cake that will be the center focal point for the party. It's going to be one of my wedding cake flavors, baked by my wedding cake baker.
  • Balloons galore! I want balloons at our mailbox, a balloon arch over the cake table, confetti balloons at the front door, and to utilize the leftover helium from Kat's baby shower/Thanksgiving.

  • A chalkboard with info about Lilly's first year. I have pretty ugly handwriting so this is going to take some maneuvering but I have high hopes!
  • I would LOVE to have a nice wooden high chair (painted aqua, obviously) to give her her smash cake, but that's not top priority. It seems like most cost an arm and a leg on Craigslist/facebook BST groups since it's so popular. #basicprobs
  • Some alcoholic option for my adult friends who are coming. I love the idea of parents getting to actually enjoy kid parties. Does that make me a terrible or awesome mom?
  • A few custom outfits for Lilly. This is one of those places I have conflicting thoughts and am really overshooting. Most ideally, I want her to have a little puppy applique sun suit and matching striped monogrammed bonnet. But then (additionally? alternatively?) I also want her to have a birthday onesie and little birthday hat for eating cake. I can't decide between bloomers + bib versus basic onesie. I'm planning on making that portion myself... which if I actually do so, I've got to get on it ASAP. But then there's the question of poodle and number 1 applique with her name on it? Just the number 1 and her name on it? Just the number 1? The number 1 with a party pup? The number 1 with a different type of dog? "Birthday girl"? HELP!
  • A couple fun things for the kids to do. Lilly loves bubbles, so I'll probably have a bubble machine on out on our deck, and a few bubble wands for kids to blow. I think I need a "fetch"/frisbee area out in the backyard for thematic purposes too. And then coloring pages with crayons. And maybe a (stuffed) puppy adoption favor table... Too much?

And then there's the laundry list of things we really ought to get done before / by the party day...

  • Power wash deck & back siding
  • Have exterminator spray for wasps
  • Mow lawn
  • Clean Lilly's room, lower crib mattress
  • Clean / organize "playroom" and bonus room
  • Find better storage for baby bottles / pump parts
  • Actually use squeeze pouch station before Lilly's exclusively on solids (IT GOES SO FAST)
  • Finish mulching front yard
  • Kill weeds
  • Buy plants, plant them
  • Paint our mailbox teal
  • Replace burnt-out bulbs outside and in foyer
  • Replace ugly mail sorter with something more attractive/functional

And then there's Drew's expensive, unrealistically challenging list...

  • Strip & stain deck
  • Create hanging posts and string up bistro lights on back deck
  • Replace deck furniture
  • Remove satellite dish from backyard

So much to do! I wonder what things will actually make the list of accomplishments by the time the party gets here! It's like my shower all over again!

After a couple weeks off, it's that time!

I do confess...

I went through and re-read my weekly recaps of my entire pregnancy with Lilly last night. It's CRAZY how much you forget over the course of a year! And funny to see things, like wanting Lillian Elizabeth to be her name from literally day one, or how CERTAIN I was that she was a boy! Definitely want to document any subsequent pregnancy the same way. It flies by!!!

A year ago! Where did it go?!

My Holy Week focus has been so out of whack. I'm feeling convicted about my heart being in the wrong place (on brunch and decorating and hosting a party, rather than the sanctity of the day). I'm in a weird place spiritually right now... Beating myself up about things / self-condemning, focusing on negatives and "shoulds" and comparison and guilt. Agh! Need to snap out and gain some perspective. Christianity is joy-filled. Where's my joy?

I made my second-ever quiche last night and it turned out excellent!!! Better than my first attempt.

I don't truly feel like I'm living my life with intention. I let the days just happen to me, and they fly by. Is this just what happens when you're a mom? Or twenty-something? #existentiallifecrisis

I went craaaaazaaaay on Trader Joe's yesterday. Every kind of cheese? Check. Energy mix? Check. Crunchy cookie butter? Check. Eight avocados? Check check. Now, onto actually making all the dishes I bought ingredients for (thanks, Pinterest)...

We had Nacho's twice this week. And it's only Thursday morning. #enchildadasfodayz

My to-do list for all the hosting I have to do next month is forever long. But at least I got my taxes sent off to our accountant yesterday!!! 🎉

beach with baby

I took LB to the beach on Saturday while we were visiting my sister in Savannah. Drew and I have been reading up on must-have lists for beach trip packing since we have a couple fun vacays planned this summer, so it was nice to have a little firsthand experience on what it's like to bring her while she's a little more mobile / more aware of her surroundings (she was 2 months and 8 months the other two times she's been to the ocean). Here's the insight I gathered:

Pack more and varied toys for the long car ride to your destination. Little ones get really restless riding for 8+ hours so have things to keep them entertained.

Beach toys are a must. I'm planning to stock up on a little bucket and some sand toys at Five Below or the Dollar Tree (maybe the Target dollar section, if they get summer inventory soon!), since she hung onto her cousins' sand shovel the whole time we were there.

Sunblock the baby before we get outside. Did it this time, no issues.

Don't forget swim diapers!! We didn't get in the ocean this time but we will in June & July when it's warmer... Def going to need those.

Baby powder is another must. Forgot it this time too; would've helped with removing sand.

Bring a bonnet!! Preferably a wide brim since she rips sunglasses off. May the bonnet wearing training begin...

Besides beach towels, a beach sheet is really great to have. Mom brought a twin sized Little Mermaid flat sheet that worked great. Bonus points for sand clips to keep it anchored. (

Our one day trip didn't require beach chairs, but it would've been nice to have a folding chair we can backpack-carry for long days. And maybe a drink sand anchor too.

Cooler bag -- absolute must. Ice packs, babybel cheeses, almonds/trail mix, cut up fruit, pb&js, bottled water, baby food squeeze pouches, fruit gummies, ziplocs & grocery sacks for trash, wet wipes for sticky hands, hand sanitizer (esp if portapotties are used).

Ziplocs for keeping seashells -- bonus points. And for keeping phones sand-free!

Not necessary but nice to have would be a baby pop up tent. And a sturdy beach wagon to cart everything around.

Totally unnecessary but nice to have would be a little spray bottle with a misting fan option. Maybe look at dollar stores for one?

Also totally unnecessary but maybe nice would be a cheap blow-up baby pool to pour ocean water in for a mini saltwater pool near my chair!

Depending on where you're going, bug spray. I love Off brand's Clean Feel spray.

Obvious attire -- flip-flops, swimsuits, coverups, hats, sunglasses.

Double extra bonus points -- easy access to tiki bar with piña coladas or strawberry dacquiris or mojitos!! The group next to our beach setup had to-go cups of Miami Vices that looked SO GOOD! Maybe pop some La Croix in the cooler bag for diabetics & preggos? ;)

It's that time!

I confess...

I feel so torn in a billion directions as far as what I want to be doing / focusing my time and attention these days. I have so many interests, obligations, to do's... It's just overwhelming.

I am counting down the days to our beach friendcation (100!) and Savannah girls' trip (6!). Can't wait for sun and sand and fun!!!

(Lilly can't wait to see her Aunt B too!)

Budgeting sucks. But it's a necessity. Esp with a baby. And working from home. So much pressure!!!

Drew's been watching Love on Netflix this week. It's painful to watch sometimes but entertaining in a trainwreck way too.

One of these days I'll exercise consistently again. Don't know when. Don't know how. But there's bound to be motivation and discipline somewhere in me, right?

Along with confession #1, I'm so torn about how I want to be seen. We're starting a new marketing campaign at my yoga studio and I need to polish my personal brand. Strugg.

I trimmed our crape myrtle and boxwood this weekend and it had a HUGE visual impact. Obsessed!

I need to get on planning LB's 1st birthday party. Budgeting is throwing a wrench on my plans. But I got the digital invite file at least! Sneak peek below!

Baby's up! Blog time complete.
